The Motor Industry Research Association (MIRA) was founded in 1946 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, by a consortium of British vehicle manufacturers to advance automotive technology through collaborative research and standardized testing. Early on, MIRA focused on vehicle safety, aerodynamics, and performance, becoming a vital hub for crash testing & safety standards, helping the UK motor industry recover post-WW2.
By the 50s and 60s, MIRA expanded, adding test tracks, wind tunnels, and laboratories. Its research helped set industry standards for safety and performance, including crash and emissions testing. In the 80s and 90s, MIRA became internationally recognized, contributing to developments in vehicle electronics such as ABS and stability control, while serving global clients from Europe, U.S., and Japan.
It was during this period of MIRA’s World leading innovation and reputation for the strictest testing that Devon Rim Company testing took place. We produced finished wheels built with our products and asked for an extensive testing to be done. We passed with flying colours! You can see the result of the certification shown on this page.
In the 2000s, MIRA went from a non-profit to a private company, expanding its services to include aerospace and defence. In 2015, it was acquired and became HORIBA MIRA Ltd., a global leader in automotive technologies. Today, it specializes in autonomous vehicle testing, electrification, and connected car technologies.
